Bealls

The Bealls store on IH-35 in Austin Texas had a mezzanine level in the back storage room that was designed to use a series of steel shelving below as it's primary form of structural support.  The inventory requirements of the store required that some of the steel shelving be removed to create area for bulk storage.  When the store personnel removed the steel shelving, they noticed the obvious deflection in the mezzanine above.

After an inspection of the area, we identified the "point load" areas that were previously supported by the steel shelves, and devised a series of steel joist stiffeners and square tube columns to stabilize the mezzanine.

We fabricated the columns and stiffeners to fit the mezzanine, and installed them for a total cost of around $2,000.00   This solution clearly solved a potentially serious problem expeditiously and economically.  Some photos of the columns and stiffeners are shown below.
